hodl Explanation 10 - About the author

Hello 🙂 It is usually common here to briefly mention the author of the game. Well... who am I? I would describe myself as a normal Bitcoiner. An average guy, you could say, who is enthusiastic about Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is a decentralised construct. Every individual is an important part of the whole. A part. Not more and not less. That is what characterises Bitcoin. I would prefer to tell you something more about Bitcoin than more about me. Because that's what I like to do most anyway 😀.

I am convinced that Bitcoin is the solution to many social problems in this world.

When Satoshi Nakamoto mined the first block, he left us a message. His message was a quote from a headline on the front page of the British newspaper "The Times" at those times.

"The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks".

His intention was to draw attention to the ills of monetary policy at the time. Bitcoin is the decentralised alternative to the current central banking system. Because it is a decentralised network, it cannot be controlled or censored centrally, as is the case with central banking systems.

With Bitcoin, what we are talking about is a "bottom up" movement. That means the adoption started at the bottom. It was accessible to everyone from the beginning. With Bitcoin, you don't have to ask anyone for permission. Especially for the poorest part of our world population, Bitcoin is a big change. Because with Bitcoin, they have the possibility to easily participate in a worldwide monetary system. They can now receive foreign transfers, for example from family members, without the enormous fees that payment service providers of the fiat money system charge. Fiat money, a good keyword. Fiat money refers to currencies such as the US dollar, the euro or the Swiss franc. Fiat is Latin and means something like "Let it be done!" or "It shall be!". Currencies such as the US dollar, the euro or the Swiss franc can be created out of nothing by the respective national banks. Therefore the umbrella term "fiat money".

Since Bitcoin came into existence, the money supply of the individual central bank currencies (fiat money) has increased worldwide and their key interest rates have been reduced. As a result, the purchasing power of the money saved has fallen.

With the money I earned in 2009 and have kept in my savings account since then, I can afford much less today than I could have in 2009.

In my opinion, it is advisable to save money in the form of bitcoin over several years. Because the amount of bitcoins is limited. Currently, we still have a little bit of inflation in Bitcoin. But this is comparatively very low and halves every four years until it finally reaches zero.

Bitcoin is, in my opinion, the best store of value. People in rich countries, among which I count myself, are doing well, no question. Still, Bitcoin is a good way to get your hard-earned money over time without a guaranteed loss of purchasing power.

For people in countries with very high inflation, Bitcoin is a need! They have no choice but to spend their salary immediately. If they want to save money for the future, they will necessarily have to switch to another currency. They then switch, if possible, to other fiat currencies with smaller inflation, or increasingly to Bitcoin.

In summary, Bitcoin is the best way to bring value across space and time. In the Bitcoin network, everyone is equal. There is no central power entity that can control it and exploit it for itself. Bitcoin is open and censorship-free. Everyone can participate.

Bitcoin creates equal opportunities on a global scale. Bitcoin is financial emancipation.

These are my thoughts on Bitcoin. I must say that they are very much summarised. I hope I could still give you a good insight into Bitcoin. A common credo among Bitcoiners is "Don't trust! Verify!". My advice to you is: don't blindly trust what I've written here and especially don't take it as a recommendation to buy, because it's not meant to be. Check for yourself. Act yourself and consciously.
